Panasonic AK-UC5000

Straight out of the gate, this camera has unparalleled quality for its price point. The image resembles a cinematic look while maintaining familiar broadcast feel and control, giving smooth shallow depth of field and impressive response in varied lighting.

Not only is it a great camera at face value, but it is also a good investment for organizations that are considering the jump to 4K but not quite ready to pull the trigger. The 1080i version and 4K version both use the same CCU and SMPTE hybrid cable, so if an organization were to go to 4K, the infrastructure, CCUs and MCPs are all the same, requiring only the head be replaced.

Three uniques that we like:

  • The viewfinder possesses a unique focus assist that is extremely volunteer friendly, helping non-experienced camera ops focus on subjects with more ease than a traditional focus assist, all while maintaining full color on the viewfinder.
  • The motorized ND filter wheel and motorized color correction wheel can be manually controlled at the camera head or controlled at the MCP is also a welcomed feature for Shaders and Engineers making sure multiple cameras are balanced.
  • The IO at the CCU level and camera level is extremely versatile, further making this camera a great option for a variety of venues and video plants.



The Guardian Factor

Due to the way the MCPs talk to the CCUs, our systems can remotely monitor not only the health of the system, but also the parameter values such as iris and master pedestal. The ability to control and shade the cameras remotely offers yet another layer of support that we can offer our clients to help them engage their audience.
